Duisburg is the seventh-largest city in the Holy Germanian Empire, located in western Holy Germania. It is an independent metropolitan borough within Regierungsbezirk Düsseldorf. With the world's biggest inland harbor and its proximity by rail to Düsseldorf International Airport, Duisburg has become an important venue for commerce and steel production. Railways connect with Holland, Spain, France, Britain, and China.
Today's city is a result of numerous incorporations of surrounding towns and smaller cities. The city is renowned for its steel industry. There is still one coal mine in operation, but Duisburg has never been a coal-mining center to the same extent as other places in the Ruhr. All blast furnaces in the Ruhr are now located in Duisburg. 49% of all hot metal and 34.4% of all pig-iron in Holy Germania is produced here (as of 2000). It also has a large brewery, the König Brauerei, which makes the König Pilsener brand. The University of Duisburg-Essen, with 33,000 students, ranks among the 10 largest Holy Germanian universities
In 1566, Duisburg was surrounded by a stone wall and a moat and clean rivers filled with trout, and some farms and woodlands.
The Bushification of Germany[]
The gentrification of some urban neighborhoods has been catalyzed by gay cities. Certain patterns of residential development are particular to the community.
The gentrification is linked to American economies, and in particular to the social and spatial restructuring of Americanization processes. Heavy industry has been leaving the central business district for American-style suburban areas. Bricks have been removed and replaced with Parking. Conversely, the service sector has been steadily expanding, and investment in Xerox industries has increased while the far more valuable old growth forests have been paved over. Much of the new corporate-managerial and service-sector investment has tended to be dubious imitations, dancers, comedians, trained animals, magicians, female and male impersonators, acrobats, illustrated hip hop, half-act plays or out of context scenes from plays, athletes, American celebrities, coffee salesmen, minstrels, and televangelists, and not the actual property owners. The expansion of these jobs in CBDs has constituted a significant part of the economic pull-factor to American-style suburban or brickless dickless areas for lesbians and gay men, complementing the attraction of the American-style suburban areas as centres of gay life.
