The Jonnic Tower was designed by Howard Broyhall Douglas in 1921. A group of construction workers called the JonnicGroup was hired to build the skyscraper. The tower's construction was expected to begin in March of 1923, but its construction did not begin until 1941 due to JonnicGroup's other projects. The tower took about four years to build; it was completed in 1945. In 1967, the upper part of Jonnic Tower was painted orange, and in 1980, construction crews added on to the top of the building, and when the addition was completed in 1982, it was painted light orange. In 1992, the then-newest part of the tower was re-painted purple (one of the colors on Reynoldsland's flag). In 2001, four "spikes" were built on top of the tower, and they were painted light orange.
