Joseph Travis Kolbern, also known as Joe Kolbern and Blue Joseph (January 14, 1932 - April 29, 2009[1]) was an American former comedian and stand-up comedian. He was the father of Bob Kolbern.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Kolbern was born in rural Mississippi to Evelynne, a schoolteacher, and Richard Kolbern, a silent film actor. He spent his childhood working on his parents' farm. He worked at his uncle's store as an adolescent.

Career[edit | edit source]

1955-1967[edit | edit source]

Kolbern began his career in comedy in 1955. He was the opening act for comedians Buck Houvendale and Billy Joe Volver. He and Volver performed a comedy act called The Kolbern and Volver Comedy Hour in 1958.
