Thames County is one of Almina's 79 counties. Its name is pronounced by locals as it is spelled, and not like the river in England. Its county seat is Thames.

History[]

Thames County was founded in the 1800s, and the city of Thames became its county seat. In 1897, a county resident named Joseph Haucham was arrested after allegedly tainting the waters of the Matheen River with large amounts of pollution. He was released in 1901. A magnitude 3.0 earthquake occurred near the town of New Picochatt in 1912. In November of that year, the New Picochatt Fault was discovered.

Thames County had a population of about 83,445 during the last census. Eighty percent of the county's population were born in Dragoonasag. About 99 percent of the population can speak English, ans 10 percent can speak a second language.
